PRESENTATION
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering was opened on 19.07.2007, shortly after the establishment of our university. Our department started its education activities at the undergraduate level with 40 students who were taken to the English preparatory class in the 2008-2009 academic year. In our department, Turkish education is given after the English preparatory class. During the four-year engineering education period, our students are offered a rich program consisting of basic science, basic engineering courses, vocational courses, and social and human science courses.
Metallurgy can be divided into two main branches as production metallurgy and physical metallurgy (materials). Production metallurgy covers the production of pure metals or alloys by physical and chemical methods, either from naturally occurring ores, metal-containing raw materials or secondary sources (such as scrap and residues). Materials science, on the other hand, examines the production, development, structure and properties (mechanical, physical and chemical) of advanced technological materials that are needed today and in the future within the production-structure-property triangle.
Today, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering continues to develop as a multidisciplinary branch of science and technology spread over the fields of machinery, chemistry, construction, aviation, electricity-electronics, environment and medicine. In addition, it plays an important role in bringing the production processes in harmony with the trio of efficiency, energy and raw materials to the sector.
Metallurgical and Materials Engineers can work in public or private sector organizations operating in industries such as metal, machinery, chemistry, construction, aviation, electrical-electronics, as well as have the opportunity to establish their own businesses.
Our department currently operates with an English program with 5 prof, 1 associate professor, 2 assistant professors and 1 research assistant.
